BECOMING LEGIBLE
The invisible logic shaping how your organization works.
You can have the right strategy, talented people, and razor clear intentions, and still find yourself solving the same problems over and over.
Why? Because teams respond to the patterns leaders create, no matter what leaders intend.
Becoming Legible is Elevé’s flagship framework for making those patterns visible, so leaders can understand what they’re creating and build organizations that are clearer, healthier, and easier to lead.
Leadership problems don’t begin where they appear.
You can’t change a problem you can’t see.
The tough conversation, the passive manager, the team ownership dodging… those are all symptoms.
Underneath the symptoms is an invisible set of assumptions, habits, expectations, and repeated behaviors that teach people how to participate in the organization. And until those become visible, you’ll find yourself solving the same problem in different forms.
There are always two organizations.
-
One exists on paper.
It has the org chart.
The roles.
The policies.
The meeting schedule.
The documented processes. -
The other exists in practice.
This one is the organization people experience – maybe less “real” on paper, but certainly more real in impact. It’s made of assumptions, conversations, workarounds, hesitation, trust, habits, invisible expectations, and narratives about how we do things.
That’s the organization beneath the organization.
That’s where Becoming Legible reaches.
So what is Becoming Legible?
Becoming Legible is a framework for making the invisible logic behind your leadership visible, so you can see what it’s creating around you and choose how you want to lead.
Every leader is leading from something. An invisible rule.
It’s unseen, or they just haven’t seen it yet.
Those invisible rules shape how we communicate, delegate, coach, make decisions, hold people accountable, respond under pressure, and build organizations.
When they remain invisible, they feel like reality.
When they become visible, they become choices.
Understand yourself better? Sure, but the real goal is to understand what your leadership has been teaching everyone else.
We all have invisible rules.
They can be subtle, like:
“If I don’t do it, it won’t be done right.”
“If I push too hard, I’m a bad leader.”
“If I see a gap, I should be the first to fill it.”
“I have to carry the biggest burden.”
“I failed to get everyone aligned if there is disagreement.”
These are the working rules that organizations organize themselves around.
What those rules create:
IF I DON’T DO IT, IT WON’T BE DONE RIGHT.
↓
People stop taking initiative.
I HAVE TO CARRY THE BIGGEST BURDEN.
↓
Everyone waits for you.
IF I SEE A GAP, I SHOULD FILL IT.
↓
Ownership gets fuzzy.
And pretty soon it feels like we’re dealing with an accountability problem. Or a delegation problem. Or a communication problem. Or a problem with a team. And sometimes that’s true, but the problems are downstream from an earlier source.
Becoming Legible follows four movements:
-
Identify the invisible rule shaping your leadership.
-
Notice what your team has learned from it.
-
Replace default patterns with intentional ones.
-
Because only when insight is transmuted into practice that an organization will change.
Not a lecture. People join expecting to learn about leadership; instead they leave recognizing something about themselves they hadn’t been able to see before.
Not another leadership model. The pattern exists, and this is about making it unmistakably visible. Beyond that, understanding what it’s been creating inside the organization all along.
Not a symptom bandaid. Once everyone can see the pattern, they’re no longer arguing about the symptom. They’re finally working on the source.

Some problems don’t need another solution.
They need a new lens.
If your organization keeps running into the same patterns despite everyone’s best efforts, Becoming Legible may be the place to start.
